Whats New at West
An exciting school year is underway at West Catholic Prep, thanks to a spike in enrollment, the restart of signature programs, and new leadership in athletics. 与此同时, we are offering multiple opportunities this fall for middle school families to get to know West.
Welcoming the largest freshman class in 13 years tells us more families are realizing the benefits of an education that prepares students mentally, 在情感上, and spiritually to meet the many challenges of life.
“Our supportive school culture encourages each student to find their passion and purpose,” said President Andrew Brady. “At the same time, West maintains a 100% college acceptance rate so that all graduates have every option open to them. Families want that and find out they can afford it because 95% receive scholarships and aid.”
West’s Engineering Technology Academy – A partnership with Drexel University – is stronger than ever this year. A four year program, The Engineering Technology Academy, is built into the core curriculum and is designed to give students a real-world, inter-disciplinary approach to learning by doing. Drexel University is offering to give students, who successfully complete this program, credit for two (three credit) electives if they choose to enter their Engineering Technology program.
The Howley College Scholars program – A partnership among the Howley Foundation, West Catholic Prep and Drexel University – provides full scholarships to Drexel for five students per year who will major in engineering, accounting or finance. Students will be chosen based on merit, candidate pool, financial need and alignment with the scholarship program. The first cohort to receive the scholarship began in fall 2023.
Also returning this year is the Kairos Retreat, a program option designed to deepen students’ Christian faith, 身份, relationships, and connection to God while finding meaning in the highs and lows of life.
体育运动 at West, which always draw enthusiastic participants and fans, have attracted extra buzz this fall. Varsity football has a new head coach in Don Richardson, whose team won six Inter-Ac Championships during his last 10 years as assistant coach at The Haverford School. West’s own Jazz Williams, a 1997 graduate, is our new athletic director. A former coach and assistant principal at West, he spent the last two years at the University of Pennsylvania.
